Water Filter Machine

Human body can survive without food intake for a long period as the necessary requirements will be filled using already stored fats and proteins in the body. But if you don’t take water you cannot survive even for some days. To sustain human life water is the basic element. We require around 2 litters of water everyday for keeping ourselves healthy. So, there is no doubt that the water we need so much needs to be clean also. Right? This is the reason people invest in tap water filters so that the water they drink is clean and pure. The biggest pro of water filters is that you basically utilize the already available water in your area and it just makes it pure and clean from impurities. You does not have to rely on bottle water anymore with the usage of a water filter. As water filter could be harmful if not purchased from a reliable source. Also, that is not environmentally sound.

Now, there are various types of water filters available to cater different needs. But you need to know some important facts and basic difference in between the water filters and the pros and cons.

Let’s first discuss about the working of a water filter.

So, how a water filter works?

Water filters use two techniques for removal of impurities from the water to make it clean. First is Physical filtration and second is chemical filtration. The physical filtration involves removing/straining the larger impurities from water. Whereas the chemical filtration involves passing the water via an active material which cleanses the water from chemical impurities.

Type of water filters?

There are mainly four types of water filter and they involve a mix of chemical and physical filtration techniques.

  1. Activated Carbon Filter - activated carbon is famous as one of the best water filter for home. They are commonly known as activated carbon granules which is based on charcoal (the charcoal is activated by heating it without oxygen). The charcoal has a big surface area and can attract all the nasty chemicals into its sponge like texture with the process of adsorption. It is a great drinking water filter.

Although charcoal is unable to trap the heavy metals, nitrates, microbes, limescale and etc.

Another disadvantage is seen as the activated carbon is frequently clogged with nasty chemicals and other impurities which needs a constant replacement. This can have an ongoing additional cost in your budget.

  1. Reverse osmosis (RO water purifier) - it is a process in which water is forcefully made to go through a fine membrane at a certain pressure with which the impurities are left behind in the filter as waste material.

Keep this in mind that as you are making water to pass in a forceful manner then you definitely need an energy to do that for you. Yes you guess it right! These filter utilize electricity powered pumps. Which means they cost you money to work. These type of filters are better in removal of pollutants like salt, limescale etc. that charcoal filters are unable to do. Whereas, it is less effective in removing chemical substances and bacteria. Secondly, this filtration produces a lot of waste water. Even some filters waste 3-4 liters of water to produce only 1 liter of safe water.

  1. Ion Exchange- these filters are famous for softening the hard water by removing the presence of limescale from it. These filters are made in a way that they split atoms apart of pollutant to make ions. Basically the bad ions in water are exchanged with good ions.

Basically the hard water contains calcium and magnesium compounds. These calcium and magnesium compounds are split apart into calcium and magnesium ions. The filters beads present traps the harmful ions are release good ions due to which water taste is lighter and more pleasant.  However the filter utilizes sodium to produce good ions and which is why you can’t describe it as “pure water filter”. Another drawback is that the ion exchange filters need salt to make more sodium ions. Which means you need to add salt into dishwashers from time to time.

People are turning more towards alkaline water filters (alkaline ion water filter basically) as it is a healthier option. These can be adjusted as countertop water filters in your kitchen or can be mounted under the sink. This ionized alkaline water will help in restoring the pH level in your body and will help boost the overall well-being.

  1. Distillation- the simplest way to purify the water is by boiling the water. Heating the water may kill a lot of bacteria but it fails to remove chemical substances that are harmful and limescale etc. stays intact with the water. So, distillation is a step forward than usual boiling because basically water is converted into steam and then the steam is captured and condensed. The water in shifted to another container. The harmful substances, toxins and impurities are left behind in the container as the water in boiled at a lower temperature than usual. However, it is a risky to fully depend on this process to cleanse your water with. Due to the fact that there are some impurities that are not removed in this process like organic compounds.

So different water filters have different advantages and have drawback of their own. We can’t say that any one of the above mentioned type can fully make the water free from pollutants and impurities. This is the reason home water filter systems are a combination of two or more of these types. If you are looking for a water filter system for your home then you should carefully read and research about the reviews. All the impurities are not necessarily being removed. Always keep in mind that other than one time costs on water filters there is some ongoing maintenance costs as well.

So always choose carefully and keep your budget in mind always. Also, you should never rely on a single source before making your decision.
